Celebrating the Vibrant Flavors of Latin Caribbean Cuisine with Chef Ismael LaSalle
Hispanic Heritage Month is a significant occasion that allows us to honor the achievements, histories, traditions, diversity, and vibrant culture of Hispanic and Latino Americans. The theme for the 2024 Hispanic Heritage Month, Pioneers of Change: Shaping the Future Together, is a powerful call to recognize the people who paved the way for all who have followed.
Ismael LaSalle, Sodexo Live! Executive Chef at the Miami Convention Center and Rum Room, hails from the vibrant town of Isabela, Puerto Rico. His culinary journey began in his hometown, where the flavors and aromas ignited his passion for the culinary arts. He credits his mother as his trailblazer for leaving an indelible mark on his journey through her guidance and willingness to teach him the art of creating delicious meals.
My love for cooking started when I was a little kid, asking my mother to show me how to make meals for the family. When I started working in a professional kitchen and saw the full spectrum of working in a kitchen and setting up for an event, I knew it was what I wanted to do with my life.
Chef Ismael's professional journey began in Miami, where he served as a Sous Chef at the iconic Hard Rock Stadium. Since then, he has orchestrated culinary masterpieces at globally acclaimed events, including three Super Bowls, a World Series, NHL All-Star games, and a luxurious dinner for 500 distinguished guests hosted by the esteemed Prince of Monaco. In addition to his extraordinary event catering feats, Chef Ismael has had the honor of serving renowned celebrities such as Jennifer Lopez, Alex Rodriguez, and Pitbull.
Every meal that I cook is an expression of love. The satisfaction of seeing returning guests is what motivates me to continue coming up with new ideas.
Chef Ismael's heart beats strongest for Latin Caribbean cuisine, a passion that infuses his creations with authentic flavors and cultural richness. His dedication to sharing Latin Caribbean cuisine is not just about food; it's a celebration of community, togetherness, and the joy of savoring life's simple pleasures. This passion is what makes his dishes truly unique and worth experiencing.
Every culture is unique. Puerto Rican food is all about flavors and spices and using what the Earth has provided. It is about gathering and celebrating. It brings us together. When I cook, I show my guests, friends, and family that I care for and appreciate them.
Introducing people to Latin Caribbean cuisine is a journey into a world of vibrant flavors and rich cultural traditions. The cuisine of the Latin Caribbean is a fusion of influences from indigenous, African, Spanish, and other European cuisines, resulting in a diverse array of dishes.
Miami is a melting pot full of excellent food from different cultures. Because we have a lot of people who travel from all over the world to the Convention Center, I want to introduce them to a new cuisine and culture to show guests who we are as Puerto Ricans. The best way to do this is by letting them taste the flavors and spices from the 'Isla del Encanto.'
